LEGIO
I applied for the Legion in early DCCCXCVIII but at that time the admissions were restricted so I had to wait for a while. When my application was finally approved, it was an honour to join the Legion and put my habilities in the service of the Empire and the SPQR in the best possible way.
Besides the regular trainings, our duties included patrolling the City, standing guard at the Senate meetings, and taking care of any possible incident or rebellion, keeping the outlaws away. We expelled a rebellious egyptian sect that was terrorizing the City, saved Senators Tybalt and Rad from their capture by the outlaws, among many other succesful interventions.
Regular leadership meetings used to define our strategy and coordinate all military and patrolling actions we needed to provide. The Legion is the only constant security service of Romanvm and the most reliable one, since different Praetorian guards didn't manage to last long and keep their commitment to the Emperor and the SPQR alive.
My highest ranks were Primus Pilus on land and Trierarchus on the Sea, commanding the Red trireme, dedicated to Mars.
Sadly, as the Oracles had announced, the nasty little middleeastern sect has advanced in the destruction of our Empire and has gotten into the General's head as well. Last year for Saturnalia, the celebration party became impossible for Romans to attend and he wasn't even aware of his own absurdities.
I tried to find a way to inspire more inclusivity, but to no avail - being Roman in Rome is frowned upon nowadays, and Skip Skipio (does he deserve to be a General of a Roman Legion with that attitude?) excluded me from the Legion in a cowardly and totalitarian way. (If you wish and have a moment, you can read the whole exchange here)
Of course, it is certainly much more honourable to not fight in a legion where the main commanding officer lacks the basic morals and humanity, so it is actually perfectly good my trainings were discontinued there, but I do feel nostalgic of the good old times.
